NEW DELHI : Responding to Member of Parliament (MP) Karti P Chidambaram’s letter demanding one-time exemption for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main candidates who were affected by technical glitches in 2022 exam and ineligible to appear in JEE Main 2023, the union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the matter has been sent to the concerned department. In a letter, the minister thanked the MP for reaching out to him.
“Thank you for your letter dated 2nd December, 2022 and 15th December 2022, regarding one-time exemption to relax the eligibility criteria for all students appearing for the JEE Main and advanced exams in 2023. The matter has been sent to the concern department for necessary action,” said Pradhan in the letter.

On December 9, the MP made a zero hour intervention in the winter session of the Parliament urging Pradhan to direct the National Testing Agency (NTA) to relax the eligibility criteria for all JEE Main 2023 aspirants and allow all students to sit for the engineering entrance exam.

Prior to the intervention, Chidambaram also wrote a letter to the union education minister wherein he had argued that both the JEE Main 2022 sessions which were held June and July in 2022 were marred with multiple technical issues such as computer system getting shut down multiple times, frozen screen for several minutes, questions taking too long to load, incomplete questions, etc. As a result, several candidates saw a huge decrease in their scores as well as percentile.
In addition to that, many students were unable to take the JEE Main 2022 exam due to last-minute centre changes. After the exam, many candidates also faced discrepancies in response sheets and errors in JEE Main 2022 results. Thus, the MP urged Dharmendra Pradhan to intervene and order a one-time exemption relaxing the eligibility criteria for all students appearing for JEE Main 2023 and JEE Advanced 2023.
