JEE Main 2023 Live: Bombay High Court refuses to postpone exam, says may have ‘cascading effect’

Students applying for the JEE Mains exam 2023 will be able to apply for only one session at a time. Students will be able to register for the first attempt till January 12 on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.

The eligibility criteria of 75% marks in the Class 12 exam to appear for the NTA JEE Main 2023 exam was restored by the NTA. The testing agency had removed the JEE Main 75% criteria last year as an one-time measure due to academic loss caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be close the registration for the JEE Main 2023 January attempt on January 12. Interested candidates will have to submit the JEE Main application form 2023 before the last date to be eligible for the exam.

JEE Main 2023 will be held as per the schedule. The JEE Mains 2023 first attempt will be held from January 24 to 31, 2023.

Bombay High Court has refused to postpone the national-level engineering entrance exam, JEE Main 2023. The bench of acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and J Sandeep V Marne said that the JEE Main eligibility criteria will be considered at the time of admission in June.

Petitioner counsel submits that it be postponed to April and 2nd session to May. The ASG informed the bench that in 2019 and 2020, JEE exams were held in January and April. He submits that petitioner does not have locus.

The Bombay High Court says, "As far as the challenge to the eligibility criteria is concerned, the counsel for petitioner seeks time to file rejoinder and argue. It will be relevant at the time of admission to the course after June 2023."

ACJ says, "Your issue today is regarding the date. Eligibility criteria will be considered at the time of admission in June. So please restrict yourself to the issue of date today."

"But if we postpone there won't be enough time for the second session," says ACJ and asks if there are any dates for exams clashing with JEE Mains 2023.

A fake circular on JEE Main 2023 postponement has been circulating on social media. “The decision has been taken due to increased demand by the aspirants and the date of the attempt clashing with some state board exam and pre-board exams,” the fake notice read.

Advocate Joseph Thate tells court, "Since previous years all selection process was conducted only in November, 2022, students were taken by surprise by the 15 December Notification."

According to some tweets, the Bombay High Court will take up the JEE Main 2023 postponement case towards the end.

The Bombay High Court is yet to hear the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking deferment of JEE Main 2023 and relaxation of 75% eligibility criteria.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting the JEE Main 2023 first session from January 24, 25, 27 to 31 and session 2 will be conducted from April 6 to 12.
