NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024 session 1 from January 24.

Session 1 exam will be better for students aspiring for JEE Advanced 2024, Vinod Agrawal, the managing partner and head at FIITJEE Dwarka said while talking to Careers360.

As per Agrawal, NTA should have reduced the syllabus last year since that’s when the COVID mostly impacted the exam. However, the move will not affect the students negatively as they have completed most of their syllabus. “This is not fair to the students, the agency should provide both the syllabi at least 8 to 9 months before the exam date. So the uncertainty remains because the deleted JEE Main 2024 syllabus topics are still there in the JEE Advanced 2024 syllabus. Since the entire syllabus has been completed for the students we advise them to go through the outline of the deleted topics. Probably after January, when the JEE Advanced syllabus is announced, we can decide what to do,” JEE Main 2024 expert said.

Talking about the difficulty level, the expert said that JEE Main 2024 session 1 will not put any pressure on the students who have covered the syllabus. Even if some of the students have not covered the syllabus can now complete it since the syllabus has been reduced.

In terms of JEE Main 2024 preparation, he doesn’t think there is much difficulty for the students. With the revised JEE Main 2024 syllabus, the teachers, question paper makers and coaching institutes will have to modify the already prepared study materials such as practice questions, question banks and more.

For the students, Agrawal feels that the January session of JEE Main exam 2024 is a better attempt because session 2 is scheduled for April 1 while the board exams 2024 will end in the last week of March. As a result, students will not get time for revision and thus there is no point of two sessions, Agrawal added. “At least they should get 1 month for revision. In such a limited time of 5 to 6 days, how can the students revise 3 subjects of both classes 11 and 12,” the FIITJEE expert asked.

According to the expert, if students attempt session 1 of JEE Main 2024, they will get three months to prepare for JEE Advanced 2024. However, those attempting the second session will not get time to revise. “Students whose focus is JEE Main and not JEE Advanced can attempt the January session as a mock test and then take the April session more seriously,” he remarked.

Most of the syllabus has been reduced from inorganic chemistry which requires learning and memorization. Not much reduction is found in organic chemistry. If students are studying for 10 hours a day, they can devote two to three hours to chemistry, four hours to mathematics and three hours to physics, as per Agrawal.
