NEW DELHI: Mechanical engineering and women usually don’t go hand-in-hand. Female enrolment in BTech degree in mechanical engineering has been low in comparison to male students. According to studies, only 5 to 6 percent of students pursuing this degree in India are female. Despite this, the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) recorded a high JEE Main cut-off for BTech ME last year in comparison to the previous years.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 session 1 is done with. JEE Mains 2025 January 28 shift 1 has been rated as the toughest shift, while rest of the exams remained moderate in difficulty level.
Over the years, the highest JEE Main cut-offs for female-only seats in mechanical engineering at NITs have remained in the 20000-30000 range. Last year, the highest JEE Main rank at which an NIT closed admission to the BTech programme was 16912 at NIT Tiruchirappalli for female candidates outside Tamil Nadu.
