JEE Main 2025: NTA paper pattern revised; updates on exam date, registration at jeemain.nta.nic.in

Candidates will require the following documents for JEE Main 2025 registration. 

• Class 10 certificate: To verify the date of birth and other personal details.
• Class 12 marksheet: For those appearing for the exam, to provide information about the subjects studied.
• Identity proof: A valid photo ID, such as Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport, or any government-issued ID.
• Passport size photographs: Recent colored photographs that meet the specifications set by the NTA.
• Signature: A scanned copy of the candidate's signature, which must adhere to the required dimensions.
• Category certificate (if applicable)
• Disability certificate  (if applicable)

The JEE Main 2025 session 1 exam is likely to be held in the last week of January. The JEE Main 2025 exact dates are expected to be announced soon by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on their official website, jeemain.nta.ac.in

Careers360 spoke with Ramesh Batlish, managing partner and head of the FIITJEE Noida centre, to discuss the impact of the revised JEE Main exam pattern. Batlish said that the removal of optional questions in JEE Mains 2025 would likely result in a marginal drop of cut-off scores.

The National Testing Agency will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 exam in two sessions. 

Paper 1 (BE, BTech) – Focuses on physics, chemistry, and mathematics. This JEE Mains 2025 paper will contain 90 questions (30 per subject) with a maximum score of 300. The exam is divided into two sections:

• Section A: Multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
• Section B: Numerical value questions (NVQs), with no optional questions.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will publish JEE Main 2025 syllabus in PDF format. JEE Mains 2025 paper 1 will cover topics from Class 11 and 12 physics, chemistry, and mathematics. For paper 2A (BArch), the syllabus includes mathematics, general aptitude, and drawing. On the other hand, JEE Main paper 2B (BPlan) will include mathematics, general aptitude, and topics related to planning.

The JEE Main 2025 schedule is awaited. The NTA has not yet commenced the JEE Main 2025 registration. 

In 2025, the NTA will follow the old pattern of JEE Mains where Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will have 25 questions each.

Candidates can apply for JEE (Main) 2024 session 1 and session 2 through the “online” mode only. The application form in any other mode will not be accepted. 

The steps to download the JEE Main 2025 information bulletin are as follows. 

• Visit the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in

• Click on the “Information Bulletin” option available in the “Information” tab

• The information bulletin will automatically appear on the JEE Main 2025

National Testing Agency may or may not announce the JEE Main 2025 reduced syllabus. Last year the authority released the JEE Main deleted syllabus.

The National Testing Agency will conduct the JEE Main 2025 exam in two sessions- January and April. 

 The application form for JEE Main will include registration, form filling, uploading of documents, and payment of fees.

The details required to fill the JEE Main 2025 application form are as follows:

• Mobile number and e-mail address of the candidate and of the Parent or Guardian.

• Digi Locker/ABC ID/PAN Card Number/Aadhaar Enrollment Number.

• Certificate/mark sheet of Class 10 / equivalent Examination. ( Only for the candidate’s reference to verify the details entered)

• Fee payment details for Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, and UPI.

The JEE Main 2025 registration is expected to begin in November 2024.

It is expected that JEE Main exam syllabus will remain the same this year. The syllabus for JEE Main 2025 includes important topics of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics of NCERT Class 11 and 12.

According to the JEE Mains new exam pattern, each section will consist of 25 questions. There will be no optional questions in section B of JEE Main papers 1 and 2 (A and B).

The authority will release the JEE 2025 syllabus soon on the website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.

NTA will announce the JEE Mains exam dates 2025 tentatively in November 2024.

NTA recently issued a notice regarding the discontinuation of optional questions in section B of the JEE Main 2025 exam. As per the revised JEE Main exam pattern, all subjects of section B will consist of 5 questions.

Till now, NTA has not mandated any criteria for the age of candidates appearing for the JEE Main. Students who have completed their Class 12 can appear for the exam.

The JEE Main score is valid for the current year only. 

Candidates belonging to the OBC (Other Backward Classes) category are given a maximum of three attempts.

As per NTA guidelines, candidates can attempt the JEE Mains for three years in a row. Thus, candidates have 6 JEE Main attempts in 3 consecutive years. 

NTA conducts the JEE Main exam twice a year. The JEE Main will be conducted in the January and April session.

However,  JEE Main reservation criteria 2025 is yet to be announced.

• Click on the “new registration link” available. 

• Choose a mode of login and identification for submission of the application form

• Enter the name, mobile number, and E-mail address details

• After completing the registration, log in using any of the following 3 options - JEE Mains Digi locker login, ABC ID, and application number. 

• Enter the details in the JEE Main 2025 registration form along with personal and educational details, scanned copies of photographs, and signatures.

• Payment of JEE Main application fees.

• Download the confirmation page for future reference.

The steps to download the JEE Main 2025 information bulletin are as follows.

• Visit the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in

• Click on the “Information Bulletin” option available in the “Information” tab

• The information bulletin will automatically appear on the JEE Main 2025

In case the candidate wants to download the brochure, they can do so by clicking on the “download” option toward the right at the top of the window.

NTA will likely release the JEE Main 2025 information bulletin which will include details such as registration date, eligibility, exam pattern, marking scheme, syllabus, admit card date, answer key, and result this month.

• Candidates opting for Paper 2A (BArch) and Paper 2B (BPlanning) will have to cover all chapters in mathematics. 

• JEE Main 2025 cut-offs may be slightly lower down as there will be negative markings and no optional questions now. 

• Some students doing selective study may feel the pressure to now study all chapters

• Students already enrolled in coaching institutes may not feel the heat as they are trained on pattern-proof material and testing methodologies.

As per a JEE Main expert, the NTA's decision to discontinue optional questions in JEE Main 2025 section B will result in low cut-offs and pressure amongst students.

Candidates can apply for JEE (Main) 2024 session 1 and session 2 through the “Online” mode only. The application form in any other mode will not be accepted. 

The JEE Main marking scheme is as follows: 

• Four marks for each correct answer

• No negative marking

• One mark will be deducted for every incorrect response.

Delhi government has announced the extension of free coaching scheme for engineering, medical, and other aspirants to general category students. As per the eligibility criteria for Jai Bheem Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojna, the following general category students will be eligible for free JEE Main 2025 coaching:

• Students of secondary and senior secondary classes passed from Delhi
• Those whose family income does not exceed Rs 8 lakh
• Candidates will have to carry income or EWS certificate issued by the district magistrate office

Under the scheme, 75% of the beneficiaries will students of Delhi government schools.

The exam dates for JEE Main 2025 have not yet been announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA). However, the expected dates for the session are tentatively scheduled for the last weeks of January 2025.

As per the recent updates, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has scrapped the optional questions in section B of the JEE Main 2025 question papers. No, the eligibility criteria of 75% marks in Class 12 exam has not been removed from JEE Main. Candidates were required to secure at least 75% marks in 12th or be in top 20 percentile to be eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other participating institutions last year. A total of 9,24,636 common candidates registered for JEE Main paper 1 (BE, BTech) last year, of which, 8,22,899 appeared for the engineering entrance exam. JEE Main session 1 saw over 12 lakh applicants while 11.79 lakh candidates submitted applications for session 2 in the previous year.
