Try NowNEW DELHI : For a candidate belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category, securing a seat in the computer science and engineering programme at a National Institute of Technology (NIT), in their homeland, has been comparatively easier than in the last few years. However, the competition is tough for those crossing the boundaries. The NITs will admit students through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 which is scheduled to take place in January.

The highest rank an EWS candidate had to score in order to land a BTech CSE seat in an NIT in the last three years has been recorded at 170 at NIT Tiruchirappalli for candidates outside Tamil Nadu. Notably, the NIT Trichy closes admissions at very high cut-offs.
In case of gender-neutral home state quota seats in the computer science and engineering programme offered by the NITs, the JEE Main closing ranks were greater this year, meaning a drop in cut-offs. However, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad (MNIT), NIT Delhi, NIT Surathkal, NIT Andhra Pradesh made exceptions with comparatively higher cut-offs.
A pattern has been recorded in the NIT cut-offs for BTech CSE for the other state candidates, wherein the JEE Main closing ranks soared from 2022 to 2023 and then plunged in 2024, marking a rise.
JEE Main 2025: NIT closing ranks for EWS quota in BTech CSE
Here we’ve provided for the last three years’ JEE Main cut-offs for the EWS quota in all types of seats in the computer science and engineering programme.
