A total of 28,705 candidates chose the BTech CSE programme for 4-year BTech admissions, while another 24,123 selected Electrical Engineering, and 21,412 opted for Mechanical Engineering, as per the  Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) 2025 report by IIT Kanpur.

IIT Bombay’s BTech CSE programme dropped by two points, reaching 66 this year, compared to the previous year’s closing rank under the open category.

The NTA published the JEE Mains admit card 2026 for session 1 exams in the afternoon. It has hosted two official links on the portal, jeemain.nta.nic.in. However, both the JEE admit card links were not working for some time, likely due to heavy traffic on NTA website. Currently, the first link uploaded by the NTA is active. Candidates can view and download their hall tickets using their registration number, password, and captcha code.

At Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur, the highest cut-off in BTech Computer Science and Engineering were recorded in PwD categories, with OBC-NCL (PwD) closing at AIR 73 and OPEN (PwD) at AIR 108. Among general categories, the open category admission was closed at AIR 2918. 

The JEE Mains 2026 BArch Paper 2A and BPlanning Paper 2B will be conducted on January 28 and 29 in the second shift from 3 pm to 6.30 pm. The total marks for JEE paper 2 are 400.

The NTA will issue JEE Main hall tickets for candidates who have opted for BArch and BPlanning paper 2A and paper 2B soon on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The JEE Main paper 2 exams will be held on the last two days on January 28 and 29.

The NTA has officially announced the JEE Mains 2026 shift timings for January 21-24 exams. The JEE Main admit cards for the session 1 exam scheduled on January 21, 22, 23, and 24 were issued earlier today on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The NTA will be conducting paper 1 for BE, BTech on the first four days of the national-level engineering entrance exam. Shift 1 will be held from 9 am to 12 noon, and shift 2 from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The NTA will use a tie-breaking method in case two or more candidates obtain the same scores in JEE Mains 2026. The tie-breaking rule will apply in the order given below. 

1. NTA score in Mathematics, followed by;

4. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the test, followed by;

6. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics, followed by;

7. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry, followed by;

8. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

The JEE Main BTech paper 1 will have 75 questions carrying 300 marks. While, section A will be multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and section B will contain questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. 

As per the marking scheme, there will be negative marking for incorrect answers in both sections. For Section B, candidates are required to choose an answer after rounding off it to the neared integer. 

The JEE Mains 2026 session 1 exams will be held in 15 cities abroad, the NTA said. In India, the JEE Main engineering entrance exam will be conducted in 323 exam centres across states.

However, students are facing technical difficulties in downloading admit cards, likely due to heavy traffic on website. The NTA has announced the schedule for release of JEE Mains admit cards for the session 1 exams.

The NTA has published helpline number and email address for any issues related to downloading the JEE Main 2026 session 1 admit card or the undertaking. 

"Candidates can contact the NTA helpline at 011-40759000 or write to jeemain@nta.ac.in," it said.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has asked candidates to ensure that the QR code and the barcode is available on the JEE Main admit card while downloading. National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) recorded its highest JEE Main cut-off in Architecture, with admissions closing at AIR 289 in the fifth round of JoSAA counselling for ‘Other State’ (OS), open, gender-neutral category. Among core engineering programmes, BTech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) emerged as the most competitive, making it the second highest cut-off , AIR 5222.

A score of 87.5 in JEE Main is considered above average, but whether it is “good” depends on the context. In percentile terms, 87.5 marks usually correspond to a high percentile, but it may not be enough for admission to top NITs or IITs, which generally require higher scores. For admission to state-level colleges, private engineering colleges, or less competitive NIT branches, it is likely to be sufficient.

No, a score of 120 in JEE Mains is good.
