JEE Main 2026: NIT Tiruchirappalli, Surathkal, Warangal retain highest BTech cut-offs among NITs

To be eligible for NIT admissions, candidates are required to qualify only the Joint Entrance Examination -Main (JEE Mains 2026) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Last year, NIT Tiruchirappalli closed admission for BTech CSE at 1449 rank, compared to 1224 in 2024, and 1509 in 2023, indicating a stable competition.
Following NIT Tiruchirappalli , NIT Karnataka, Surathkal, and NIT Warangal are the most competitive institutes. While NIT Surathkal closed its admission for computer science at 1827 in 2025, NIT Warangal closed at 2409.
Institutes such as — Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur; National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra; National Institute of Technology Delhi; Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat — have JEE Main cut-offs beyond 6000 rank, indicating less competition compared to top NITs.
On the contrary, institutes situated in the north-east – NIT Arunachal Pradesh, NIT Mizoram, NIT Manipur, and NIT Nagaland – have the lowest JEE Main NIT cut-off, crossing the 30000 rank.
NIT Admission 2026 through JoSAA
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will conduct a combined counselling process for admission to 127 technical institutes, including 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, 23 IITs, and other participating institutions.
Admission to NIT+ system will be based on the All India Rank (AIR) obtained by candidates in JEE Main. Candidates should have also obtained at least 75% aggregate marks, and 65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates, or should be among the top 20 percentile of students in their respective boards.
The JoSAA counselling for NIT admissions will be carried out only after the declaration of JEE Advanced 2026 results. Only those who have obtained a rank in top 2.5 lakh and seeking admission in IITs are required to appear for JEE Advanced 2026.

Candidates can check the NIT JEE Main cut-off for BTech Computer Science Engineering (CSE) under the other state (OS) open category. The last three years’ closing ranks of all NITs for CSE courses are given below.
