The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main 2026) on January 22, Day 2, in two shifts, with the second shift scheduled from 3 pm to 6 pm. According to JEE Main 2026 January 21 shift 2 students’ feedback, opinions on the paper difficulty varied. Sahib, attempting the exam for the first time, described the physics section as “moderate” and found mathematics easy, noting that the physics questions were similar in difficulty to last year’s paper.

As per the students' reaction, the chemistry section was the toughest, followed by the maths, and physics was the easiest in the JEE Main 2026 Jan 21 shift 1 paper. The overall difficulty level of the JEE Main 2026 shift 1 exam was "moderate."

The NTA has implemented stricter exam-day guidelines, including biometric and photo identity verification norms, to curb irregularities and use of unfair means. Candidates must carry the JEE Mains admit card, two passport-size photographs, same as the one uploaded in application form, and valid photo ID for verification at the exam centre.

The computer-based examination will be held in two sessions, with the morning session scheduled from 9 am to 12 pm and the afternoon session from 3 pm to 6 pm. Candidates who opted out of Aadhaar verification have been directed to reach the exam centre an hour before the gate closing time for verification. As per the JEE Mains dress code 2026, Sikh candidates have been allowed to wear their religious articles i.e. "KARA" and "KIRPAN".

JEE Mains 2026 exam dates

Candidates who have not yet obtained their JEE Mains 2026 admit cards can download the exam hall tickets through the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in using login credentials.

The testing agency will issue the JEE Mains 2026 admit card for January 28 and 29 exams soon on its official platform. The JEE Mains 2026 session 1 exams will be held on January 21, 22, 23, and 24 in two shifts.

The results for the college entrance test - JEE Mains 2026 session 1 will be declared on February 12. The JEE Mains 2026 session 1 is scheduled to be conducted from April 1 to 10 and the results will be announced on April 20.

Candidates who qualify the JEE Mains 2026 will be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced - a college entrance test for admission to IITs.

Go to the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
Look for the link ‘Admit card for JEE Main session 1’ and click on it. (on the homepage)
A new page will open.
Enter application number and password.
Press the login button and download the admit card.
It is advisable to laminate the admit card.

JEE Main dress code 2026 for male and female candidates is given below.

Candidates can wear jackets, sweaters, or full-sleeve clothes, but these should not have any metal parts.
