NEW DELHI, June 2: The Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research is conducting the yearly JIPMER MBBS entrance examination on June 3, 2018. The examination is held online as a Computer-Based Test. The examination is being held in approximately 120 cities across the country. The examination is conducted for admission to 200 MBBS seats in two of the JIPMER campuses – Puducherry and Karaikal.

The candidates have been allotted the exam timings as mentioned in their respective admit cards and they are required to report to the examination centre accordingly. The JIPMER MBBS exam is held in two shifts 10.00 AM to 12.30 PM in the morning and 3.00 PM to 5.30 PM in the evening. JIPMER is a coveted medical entrance examination in the country after NEET and AIIMS.

What is new in JIPMER MBBS 2018?

In a first, negative marking has been introduced in the JIPMER MBBS entrance examination. For every incorrect response, there will be a deduction of 1 mark. The first step of the tie-breaking criteria has also been changed and it will favour the candidate with lesser negative responses.

Alterations have been made to the JIPMER MBBS eligibility criteria as well. Candidates belonging to the Unreserved category are now required to secure an aggregate of minimum 60 percent marks in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in the Class 12 examination, while an aggregate of 50 percent marks in the subjects mentioned has to be obtained by candidates belonging to the reserved category including the differently abled candidates.

The number of cities where JIPMER entrance examination is being held has been increased to 120 from 75. Keeping in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016, the horizontal reservation for the differently abled candidates also has been increased to 5 percent from 3 percent.

A total of around 1,89,663 candidates registered for JIPMER MBBS exam last year, of which 1,49,963 candidates appeared in the entrance examination. Judging by the previous trends it is expected that the number of candidates appearing for the entrance examination this year is going to increase.

JIPMER MBBS 2018: Examination Schedule

The test starts will start the process of entry 1.5 hours prior the exam commences and close it 45 minutes before the test starts. It is advisable that the candidates visit the examination centre a day before in order to avoid confusion or delay in locating it on the exam day and report an hour earlier on the day of the examination so that there is no rush at the last minute.

JIPMER MBBS Exam Pattern

The entrance exam of JIPMER MBBS comprises 200 single-best-response type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with four choices in each question. JIPMER Puducherry prepares the syllabus JIPMER MBBS 2018 based on the curriculum followed by various State Higher Secondary Boards and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for Classes 11 and 12. the questions asked will comprise the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Comprehension, and Logical and Quantitative Reasoning. The candidates will be awarded 4 for every correct answer, while there will be -1 mark for each incorrect answer, and 0 Marks for unattempted questions or those marked for review. Candidates can attempt the question paper in English only.

JIPMER MBBS Result Declaration

The result will be declared by June 20, 2018, in online mode. The result will be declared in the form of a merit list which will contain the individual percentile obtained by the candidates. Only the candidates who obtain the required minimum percentile which is 50 percent for Unreserved, 45 percent for Persons with Disability and 40 percent for Reserved categories will be eligible for further admission and counselling processes. The individual scorecards or rank letters of the candidates who appear in the entrance examination will be released a week after the declaration of results. The scorecards will include details about the marks scored by the candidates in each of the subjects, rank obtained, and overall and sectional percentile.
