NEW DELHI: The JKBOSE Class 11 students have urged the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) to postpone the annual exams in view of snowfall and moderate to heavy rainfall in the region. However, the board has decided to hold the JKBOSE Class 11th board exam today as per the schedule.

The board started conducting the J-K Board Class 11th exam 2025 for soft zone areas from February 18. Students will be appearing for computer science, English, Information Practices, Environmental Science, and other subjects today.

According to the JKBOSE Class 11th board exam time table 2025, the science, arts, home science, and commerce stream students will sit for Physics, Home Science (Elective), History, Public Administration, Management of Resources, and Business papers on the last day of the exam on March 18.

“Due to continuous snowfall affecting all roads in Kashmir, JKBOSE should consider postponing today's Class 11th exam for students' safety. We urge the JK Govt to intervene and take necessary action,” a X user said. Parents have started flooding social media with requests to defer the exam.

Mobile phones in JKBOSE Class 11th exam

Meanwhile, some local reports claimed that the JKBOSE Class 11 exam paper for hard zone areas had out of syllabus questions. The board also received criticism for removing topics from textbooks.

A student allegedly using a mobile phone during the J-K board exam has also gone viral on social media. The exam day guidelines specifically prohibits students from using any electronic devices, including mobile phones inside the exam hall. Sharing the viral video, a X user said: "Kids using mobile phones in the exam hall and making reels—free and fair exams in Jammu and Kashmir is a myth."

“JKBOSE has removed key topics from textbooks over the last 5 years. Just yesterday we saw 'state of body' replaced with 'UT of body' using Ctrl+R. This isn't an educational reform—it's a deliberate move to erase our history, identity, & culture to fit a BJP narrative,” Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed Para said, as per reports.

Kashmir weather today, tomorrow

Srinagar and parts of Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Thursday, while the higher reaches of the valley received moderate to heavy rainfall, officials said. The snowfall continued in many areas until the last reports came in. Light snowfall started in Srinagar and other plains of Kashmir in the evening, the officials said, adding that the plains had been lashed by intermittent rains in the last 24 hours, the PTI reported.

Many inter-district roads in the higher reaches, including the Srinagar-Leh highway, were closed due to snow accumulation. The Srinagar-Jammu national highway was open for traffic during the day, but due to snow accumulation at a few places and shooting stones, the road was closed for traffic in the evening, the report read. The meteorological department said light to moderate rain or snow is possible at most places, with isolated to scattered heavy falls, until Friday noon.
