Karnataka, British Council unveil 4 new programmes to enhance skills, quality of higher education

NEW DELHI: The Karnataka government has announced plans to launch four new programmes in collaboration with the British Council aiming to advance higher education, enhance language proficiency, improve employability, and create a seamless transition for students into the workforce. The new initiatives will be implemented in line with the recent agreement with Karnataka State Higher Education Council.

The four new programmes are - Scholars for Outstanding Undergraduate Talent (SCOUT) programme by GREAT for the Karnataka State Higher Education Council; English Skills for Youth; Capacity Building Training for International Officers; Freemium Digital Library Wall inauguration at Bengaluru City University.

In this regard, the Karnataka state education minister MC Sudhakar today inaugurated ‘Freemium Digital Library Wall’ at Bangalore City University in collaboration with KSHEC and British Council. The minister advised students “to make good use of this service”.

‘English Skills for Youth’ is an initiative by the British Council and Microsoft India to empower students in Karnataka government engineering colleges.

Scholars for Outstanding Undergraduate Talent Programme (SCOUT) is an immersive programme which will be conducted for 30 students and 6 professors from select state public universities to impart and foster academic excellence and skills. These programmes will be hosted by the University of East London, UK from November 8 to 23.

“The state looks forward to strengthening partnership with the British Council for enhancing skills and quality in higher education of Karnataka,” the minister added.

The Karnataka higher education council will shortlist 28 universities and over 56 participants “to bolster the internationalisation efforts of Indian universities” under the Capacity Building for International Officers programme.
