KCR to launch 8 new medical colleges in Telangana tomorrow

HYDERABAD: Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will launch the commencement of classes in the eight newly-established state government medical colleges tomorrow, November 15, 2022.

A press release from Rao's office said the medical colleges will be launched online from Pragathi Bhavan, his official residence here. As many as 1,150 first year MBBS students will begin their medical education from tomorrow in the eight colleges at Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Jagtiyal, Vanaparthi, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool and Ramagundam towns, the release added.

According to a report by Telangana Today, the colleges are established at a cost of Rs 4,080 crore and will add altogether 1,150 additional MBBS seats in the Telangana seat matrix. Admissions in these colleges were concluded recently. Telangana had only three government medical colleges until 2014.

“We will start admissions in 8 new medical colleges from this year, which will add 1200 seats. Combined with the 1067 additional MBBS seats through 85 percent reservation in B category medical seats in private medical colleges, over 2,200 medical seats will be available from this year. This is a Dussera gift from chief minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao to MBBS aspirants in Telangana,” said state health minister, T Harish Rao.

These colleges were established without financial assistance from the union government and has not sanctioned a government medical colleges to the State in the last eight years. Further, the State government upgraded the adjoining district hospitals and attached them to the new medical colleges.
