Karnataka government has introduced a common examination system for first PUC students from 2027 to ensure uniform question paper standards across colleges.
The Karnataka government has decided to introduce state-level question papers for the First Pre-University Course (1st PUC) annual examinations from 2027. The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) will prepare the question papers, while the Department of School Education (Pre-University) will conduct the examinations.
According to a government order issued on November 7, 2026, the decision will bring uniformity in question paper standards and evaluation across pre-university colleges in the state. Until now, individual colleges prepared, printed and distributed their own question papers for the 1st PUC annual examinations . Hence, there were issues with question paper difficulty, syllabus coverage and evaluation standards.
The new system is expected to make sure that students across government, aided and private colleges get question papers based on a common standard. Under the new arrangement by the Karnataka government , question papers will be prepared confidentially at the state level and sent digitally to colleges on the respective examination days. All pre-university colleges will also follow a common examination timetable.
Karnataka 1st PUC exams: Evaluation to continue at college level
The KSEAB will only be responsible for preparing the question papers and will not conduct the examinations. The answer scripts will continue to be evaluated at the college level under the supervision of the principals. The respective Deputy Directors of Pre-University Education will verify and approve the results before their announcement.
The practical examinations will be conducted according to schedules prepared at the district level. The government has also provided for inter-college examination supervisors and vigilance squads to prevent irregularities.
To help students prepare, KSEAB has already made model question papers, question banks and blueprints available on the official website. The 2027 annual exams will follow the published blueprints and the existing syllabus.
The government said the move will improve academic standards at the First PUC level and create a stronger foundation for students before they appear for the Second PUC examinations.
