Law Luminaries interact with budding lawyers at Amity International Moot Court

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 13: Eminent luminaries of law domain including Former Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, Member of Parliament, Dr. Subramanian Swamy and Supreme Court Justice (Retd.) Gyan Sudha Misra interacted with the budding legal professionals during the valedictory of 8th Amity International Moot Court Competition.

The competition was organized by Amity Law School Noida on International Humanitarian and Refugee Laws. It witnessed participation from more than 100 law students across various Universities, Law Colleges and Institutions including Jamia Milia Islamia, School of Law- Delhi University, Symbiosis Law School, Banaras Hindu University, National Law University and Christ University amongst others. The team from Symbiosis Law School Noida bagged the trophy for the ‘Best Team,’ while the team from National Law University, Assam was declared the ‘Runner-Up.’

Addressing the gathering, Former Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra said that law students must imbibe the characteristics of being an intellectual aristocrat and honest to become intellectually spiritual. He advised the students to compete with oneself since self-competition makes a person successful. He suggested the students to observe the world but not to imitate it. Justice Mishra asked them to be different, only then they will be able to create history and not be just part of it. He conveyed that participation in such competitions is important for students since it nurtures their talent and helps them in the future course of the career.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice (Retd.) Gyan Sudha Misra (Supreme Court) apprised that initially, a lot has been spoken about the perpetrators who made people victim of hate crimes and also the affected victims. But here is the time, the problem of human rights has compounded and become complex where we are compelled to think about the influx of refugees situation. She remarked that this is the area of growing concern and there is a need to think collectively as one society.

Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group apprised that the moot problem was designed on entrenched principles of International Refugee Law, International Humanitarian Law and International Customary Laws and General Principles wherein the matters were in the argument stage before the International Court of Justice. He apprised that the proposition was to equip participants with a panorama of unconventional and extraordinary legal issues to delve upon.

The team from Nirma University won the award for ‘Best Memorial.’ The ‘Best Speaker’ award was given to Symbiosis Law School Pune and team member of Nirma University received the prize for ‘Best Researcher’.
