Lockdown 3: HRD Minister to host webinar for teachers

The Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ is hosting a webinar for teachers today, on May 14 at 12 noon.

The HRD Minister will interact with teachers and address their concerns about imparting education effectively during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Mr. Pokhriyal has asked teachers to share their queries on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #EducationMinisterGoesLive.

He has also requested teachers to let him know if there is anything specific they would like him to cover during the webinar.

The teachers have been posting their questions on the minister's Facebook and Twitter pages.

The issues range from internet and technological problems in conducting online classes, managing social distancing once the schools reopen, and assessment of students without examinations, to questions about their own employment.

They have also asked about National Institute of Open Schooling’s (NIOS) Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) programme, contract renewal of teachers appointed under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) after their term ends in September, interviews of associate professors in Andhra Pradesh and so on.

The minister has already hosted webinars for students and teachers.

The government had ordered all educational institutions in the country to be shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many schools and colleges have resumed education through online mode and digital platforms. But teachers are experiencing low attendance of students because of problems with internet connectivity and students not having laptops and smartphones. The government has ordered that the teachers, including full-time as well as guest faculty, be paid salary on time.

The country is currently under lockdown from March 25 till May 17.
