Maharashtra government and British council sign agreement for internationalisation of higher education

NEW DELHI : The department of higher and technical education, government of Maharashtra and the British council signed an agreement today on April 26, 2023. The agreement was aimed at strengthening educational and cultural exchange to promote the state's aspirations for knowledge and economic development, an official statement said. The agreement was signed in the presence of Minister at department of higher and technical education of government of Maharashtra, Chandrakant Dada Patil and Director of British council Alison Barrett.
The agreement falls in line with the objective of the Maharashtra government to work and improve opportunities for young people, quality higher education and skill development, the statement released by the department further read. It continued to state that that the agreement will complement the existing partnership between the Maharashtra government and British council India, to work together, to strengthen skills, and enhance the quality of higher education in the state.
Under the agreement, it has been decided that the British council will extend support towards internationalisation of higher education in Maharashtra, including research and mobility. Both the entities will work jointly to strengthen Maharashtra's higher education ecosystem and focus on capacity building, leadership development and training for faculty.

Minister Patil said while signing the agreement: "We want Maharashtra's higher education institutions to be internationalised and want to create opportunities that will increase collaboration between India and the UK, which will help improve the skill and confidence of young people in the state. We are looking forward to developing high quality partnerships with UK higher education to create better research and development facilities and we hope to create tangible positive impact in the lives of students across the state".
