Earlier in August, Gaikwad informed on social media that the Maharashtra government has launched Rajarshi Shahu School Education Transformation Mission to transform government schools into “model schools”.

Under the scheme, 5000 government schools will be transformed into model schools by the year 2024. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

In the first phase of the implementation of the scheme, 471 government schools will be converted into “model schools”, Varsha Gaikwad had further said. The education ministry had also launched a portal for channelising CSR funds and said that it will form a School Education Transformation Fund (SPV) for building these model schools.
