Maharashtra government to transform 5000 govt schools into “model schools”: Varsha Gaikwad

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra government has launched Rajarshi Shahu School Education Transformation Mission to transform government schools into “model schools”, Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad announced on Twitter on Friday.

Under the scheme, 5000 govt schools will be transformed into model schools by 2024. The minister said that the schools will become “centres of excellence”. The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray.

“Under the able guidance of cmomaharashtra, we've launched the 'Rajarshi Shahu School Education Tranformation Mission' to turn our government schools into Centres of Excellence. We want to build model schools; we want to promote a culture of excellence that permeates every classroom,” Varsha Gaikwad said on Twitter.

In the first phase of the scheme implementation, 471 government schools will be converted into “model schools” while the plan is to transform 5000 schools by 2024, Gaikwad added.

The Congress-led education minister further added that the education ministry will form a School Education Transformation Fund (SPV) and a portal for channelising CSR funds.

“We are a young nation. The education, well-being & creative abilities of our students will determine the well-being & strength of India. It is therefore imperative that we transform our schools into effective learning communities,” Varsha Gaikwad said.
