MAKAUT, West Bengal, waives in house students fees till university reopens in physical mode

NEW DELHI: Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal has decided to waive the fees for 2000 university students till the university opens for physical classes.

The university has waived off the hostel, library and laboratory fees for the inhouse students till the university resumes the classes in physical mode. The decision has been taken in view of the pandemic situation. The foreign students who are staying at the hostel will be required to pay the hostel fees, said the university.

A notice issued by registrar of the university, Partha Pratim Lahiri said, “It is being notified to all concerned, due to pandemic situation arriving out of the spread of Covid 19, hostel, library and laboratory fees of all in house students will not be charged from the existing students till the university reopens in physical mode. Hostel fees will only be charred from foreign students who are staying at the hostel.

Earlier in June, the university had waived off the fees for three months during even semester 2020, and for odd semester 2020-2021 the fees were fully waived. “It is being notified to all concerned that due to pandemic situation arising out of the spread of COVID-19, Hostel fees, Library and Laboratory fees of all In-house students are waived for three months during Even Semester, 2020 and be fully waived for Odd Semester 2020-2021 until further notice,” the registrar had informed in the notice.

The university charges Rs 9,000 as hostel fees in each semester. The students pay Rs 1,000 and Rs 600 respectively as laboratory and library fees .

Earlier in the state, the Calcutta University had waived fees for students of all postgraduate courses and two institute-run undergraduate programmes for the academic year 2021-22, taking into account the financial constraints families have been facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is for the information of all concerned that in view of the present pandemic situation, the university has waived off all fees like Admission fees, Tuition fees and Examination fees of the students (PG and University UG students) for the academic year 2021-2022 for different semesters,” notice from the University had said.
