Mangi Lal Jat appointed DARE secretary, ICAR DG

Mangi Lal Jat is currently the deputy director general-research and director global research programme at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad.
NEW DELHI : The appointment committee of the Cabinet, government of India, has approved the appointment of Mangi Lal Jat as secretary of department of agricultural research and education (DARE)-cum-the director general of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for three years until further orders. Jat is currently the deputy director general-research and director global research programme of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad.
Jat was appointed as director of the global research programme on resilient farm and food systems at ICRISAT in August 2022. He was born in Pachkodiya, Rajasthan on May 4, 1971.
M L Jat is a recognized systems agronomist having over 25 years of experience in systems science across the developing world. As a global research programme director at ICRISAT Jat provides scientific and strategic partnership guidance to research teams of the programme across five clusters including climate adaptation and mitigation science, geo-spatial and big data sciences, digital agriculture, landscapes, soil health and water science and ICRISAT development center.
Mangi Lal Jat’s contribution
Mangi Lal Jat has also served many roles including as a scientist, project directorate for cropping systems research in Modipuram from 1998 to 2007; senior scientist, directorate of maize research in New Delhi from 2007 to 2009; FAO Mission to Bhutan in 2009; member research advisory committee ICAR-directorate of rapeseed and mustard research in Bharatpur Rajasthan from 2014 to 2016; member of quinquennial review team; ICAR -directorate of rapeseed and mustard research in Bharatpur Rajasthan from 2015 to 2016 and member research Advisory Committee (RCA), ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR) in Karnal 2023 to date.
