NEW DELHI: Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, has dropped ‘Minister of Human Resource Development’ designation from his profile on social media, in line with the recent change in the name of HRD Ministry to Ministry of Education. The change of name was approved by the Union Cabinet on July 29 along with the new National Education Policy 2020.

Pokhriyal’s bio on Twitter now says, “Union Cabinet Minister for Education, Government of India | Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand | Author of 75 books | MP Haridwar.” Earlier, instead of Union Cabinet Minister for Education, it was Minister of Human Resource Development.

The website of the ministry has also been updated, and now reads, “Ministry of Education”. Until yesterday, it was the MHRD full form: Ministry of Human Resource Development.

As per the new policy, in order to bring the focus back on education and learning, the Ministry of Human Resource Development was to be re-designated as the Ministry of Education (MoE).
