MHT CET 2026 records highest-ever BTech, BE admissions; CE most-opted branch, SPPU tops among universities

More than 1.81 lakh candidates took engineering admission across 387 engineering colleges in the state via MHT CET counselling 2026. Significantly, computer engineering (CE) branch emerged as the most-opted branch, accounting for 28,170 admissions.

Among universities, Savitribai Phule Pune University saw the highest number of Btech admissions at 64,822, and while district-wise, Pune led the state with 49,616 admissions, followed by Nashik with 12,469.

The Maharashtra State Cell offered 2,03,293 engineering seats via Centralised Admission Process (CAP). After the CAP and institutional round counselling, over 1.81 lakh students took admission. MHT CET round 4 counselling recorded the highest number of admission at 48,689.

MHT CET BTech admission 2026 highest-ever

For the academic year 2026-27, a total of 1,81,927 students took admission in 111 engineering courses among 387 engineering colleges in the state. Of whom, 11,4121 are male and 67, 806 are female students, respectively.

In the last academic year 2025-26, 1,66,746 students took admission. Notably, the number of BTech and BE admissions has risen by 15,181 compared last year.

MHT CET twice a year

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell conducted the MHT CET 2026 PCM and PCB examination twice a year, offering another opportunity to students to improve their scores. While allotting engineering seats in MHT CET counselling 2026 process, the best scores were taken into consideration who appeared for exams in both phases.

According to State Cell’s press release, mechanical engineering was the second most opted branch followed by electronics and telecommunication engineering and computer science engineering (CSE).

However, among BTech aspirants, CSE is the most preferred branch in national-level exams such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). JEE Main 2027 session 1 exams will be conducted on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, and 30.

MHT CET Counselling 2026: BTech university-wise admission

Savitribai Phule Pune University saw the highest number of engineering admissions at 64,822, followed by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University in Lonere with 34,385 admissions. The lowest number of admissions was recorded at Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University, at 294. Over 32,000 opted for Mumbai University for engineering admission.
