Migrants from Pakistan with Indian citizenship eligible to attend FMGE, NEXT: NMC

NEW DELHI: Migrants and their children from Pakistan who have acquired Indian citizenship, and had taken their medical degree or higher education from Pakistan will be eligible to attend the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) exam, National Exit Test (NEXT) exam and to seek employment in India after getting security clearance from the ministry of home affairs, said a public notice released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

This public notice from NMC is issued following the joint advisory by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) asking students to not travel to Pakistan for pursuing higher education. The statement from UGC and AICTE said that any Indian national or overseas citizen who acquires educational qualifications from Pakistan will not be able to seek employment or higher studies opportunities in India.

The NMC notice further reiterated the UGC, AICTE statement advising students to not travel to Pakistan for pursuing medical education. "Any Indian national/Overseas Citizen of India who intends to take admission in MBBS/BDS or equivalent medical course in any medical college of Pakistan shall not be eligible for appearing in FMGE or seeking employment in India the basis of educational qualifications acquired in Pakistan except those who had joined Pakistan degree colleges/institutions before 2018 or later after obtaining Security Clearance from MHA till date," said NMC.

Pakistan's foreign affairs ministry had recently deplored the public notice by UGC and AICTE. It said that the tone of the AICTE, UGC notice was threatening towards students.
