MK Stalin to launch stipend scheme for 3.28 lakh boys from Tamil-medium schools pursuing higher education

The Tamil Pudhalvan scheme will give Rs 1,000 to each student from a Tamil-medium school to join an undergraduate programme to increase higher education enrolment.

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin will launch a monthly stipend scheme called the Tamil Pudhalvan Project for boys studying in government schools tomorrow, August 9, in Coimbatore. Under this project, about 3.28 lakh students in government and Tamil-medium government schools and those enrolling in higher educational institutions would receive a monthly payment of Rs 1,000. The scheme aims to help students with financial support.

Chief minister MK Stalin said: "This scheme will help students studying in government schools up to Class 1 purchase textbooks, general knowledge books, and magazines to enhance their education… 6-12 graders will receive Rs 1,000 directly deposited into their bank accounts each month.”

Tamil Nadu government: Other schemes

The Tamil Nadu government had previously introduced the Innovation Women Scheme, which gives female students in higher education institutes Rs 1,000 each month and claims to have helped over 3 lakh girls.

Similarly, the state government also introduced the Tamil Pudhalvan scheme, providing financial aid of Rs 1,000 per month, to encourage more students to complete their higher studies.

Around 3.28 lakh girls have benefited by the innovation girl scheme till now, the state government says, adding that after the scheme was launched, more women enrolled into colleges or other higher educational institutes.

"Education cannot be destroyed by flood; it cannot be consumed by fire. It cannot be taken away by a merchant; it is given to others but in abundance. It does not decrease. It cannot be stolen by a thief." said Stalin.
