NBEMS to provide medical colleges up to Rs 25 lakh for conferences, workshops, training

NEW DELHI: National Board of Examinations in Medical Science (NBEMS) has announced that it will provide Rs 25 lakh in financial assistance to continuing medical examination (CME), conferences, seminars, and training programmes.

The organisers seeking a grant of sponsorship from NBEMS will be required to apply the NBEMS application form at least 60 days before conducting the event, as per the official statement by the board.

The financial assistance provided by NBEMS will be utilised for academic activity by the organisation in expenditure on CME publicity material website, venue charges, audiovisuals, souvenirs, printing and others. A utilisation certificate of the financial assistance has to be submitted to NBEMS by the organising committee within 1 month of the conduct of the CME, the board said.

The NBEMS also clarified that the financial assistance should not be utilised for entertainment, food and beverages, lodging, flight tickets and transport. “The organisers should acknowledge NBEMS in their brochure, website and in the event proceedings of the CME and display the NBEMS logo accordingly. However, this will not be an endorsement by NBEMS regarding the content of the event,” the board said.

The utilisation certificate should be signed by both the organising secretary and auditor, the board added.

NBEMS will provide approval of financial assistance for the conduct of the CME before the conduct of the programme. However, to get financial assistance, CME should submit the utilisation certificate, as per the board.

The organisers must submit a cancelled cheque to NBEMS along with the application form and the committee will provide CME proceedings and will allow NBEMS to upload them on its website at its discretion, it added. The board also said that preference will be given to the organisations applying for the first time and grants to the same organisation in successive, consecutive years will be avoided.

NBEMS financial assistance: Criteria

The financial support by the NBEMS will be given on the following criteria.

  • The programme shall be intended for the academic benefit of NBEMS, postgraduate trainees and faculty.
  • Innovative practice workshops in upcoming sub-specialty should be encouraged.
  • The fee for NBEMS trainees should be subsidised.
  • It should be a national-level event
  • The organizing body should be a recognised organisation/body at the national level.
  • The participants attending the event should be from pan India.
  • The event should be conducted for at least one full day. At least one hour per day should be devoted to the topic of ethics, communications and patient safety
