NCERT launches Class 9 social science textbook part 2

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has launched part 2 of the Class 9 social science textbook ‘Understanding Society: India and Beyond, Social Science Textbook’, part 2. Students, teachers, and parents can purchase the textbooks through NCERT’s authorised sales channels.

The NCERT textbooks have been introduced as part of the curriculum transition under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The two frameworks provide the basis for stage-wise and subject-wise curricular goals, competencies, learning outcomes, syllabi, textbooks, pedagogy, and assessment.

Students, teachers, parents and educational institutes can purchase the textbook through NCERT’s authorised sales channels from today, September 29. NCERT has also made Class 9 textbooks available through its online textbook platform and e-commerce website Amazon.

NCERT Class 9 textbooks

The release of the social science textbook comes after NCERT had earlier made Class 9 textbooks available as part of the curriculum transition.

Among the new books is ‘Ganita Prakash’, the mathematics textbook for the revised Grade 9 curriculum . NCERT says it was developed through workshops and expert consultations involving mathematics teachers and subject specialists, in line with NCF-SE and NEP.

Additionally, while addressing concerns raised over the Class maths textbook draft syllabus in particular, NCERT also clarified that no overall topics had been removed. Instead, other topics that traditionally appeared as standalone chapters have been incorporated into other chapters.
