NCTE launches portal to streamline recognition process of teacher education programmes

NEW DELHI: National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under the Ministry of Education has launched an online portal to streamline the complete process of recognition of teacher education programmes of Higher education institutes (HEIs) or teacher education institutes (TEIs). The portal will streamline the process right from the time of inviting application for courses till the stage of issue of recognition orders including the inspection of institutions.

The applications for the recently launched 4 Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) will be processed on this portal. Online applications for ITEP will be processed by NCTE through ‘Admin Login’ of the website.

“This portal will bring a paradigm shift in the functioning of NCTE. It aims to provide an automated robust framework thereby enhancing accountability, transparency and ease of doing business,” said an official statement.

All communication from HEIs or TEIs regarding deficiencies or SCN will correspondingly have to be sent on the ITEP portal. For online inspections, stakeholders will have to access the VT portal on NCTE website, the statement said.

Earlier in May, NCTE began inviting online applications for the 4-year ITEPs for academic session 2023-24. ITEP is a dual-major holistic bachelor’s degree offering BA, BEd or BSc, BEd and BCom, BEd.

The multidisciplinary central, state government universities will be able to submit the online application for being recognized for the 4-year ITEP from May 1 to 31, 2022 till 11:59 PM. Admission for the integrated programme will be carried out by the National Testing Agency (NTA) through the National Common Entrance Test (NCET).
