Nearly 2 lakh Indian students enrolled in US universities in 2021-22, a 19% increase: Report
Open Doors 2022 report on international educational exchange shows 19 percent increase of Indian students in USA with 1,99,182 enrollments in 2021-22.

NEW DELHI: The Open Doors 2022 report on international educational exchange found a total of 1,99,182 Indian students enrolling in US academic institutions in 2021-22. The reports shows a 19 percent increase in enrollments from year 2020-21.
According to the report, China and India were the largest contributors to international students in US universities. China was the top country on the list with 2,90,086 Chinese students in US campuses while India was the second top-sending country with nearly 2 lakh students applying to institutions in the USA.

India remains as one of the top countries sending international students to US after 1,67,582 Indian students went to the US in the 2020-2021 academic year. In 2019-20 the number of Indian students also saw a slight decrease where the total decreased from 2.02 lakh to 1,93,124 lakh. The year 2018-19 saw the highest total of 2,02,014 Indian students in US.
The international enrollment in US data saw a return to pre-pandemic levels with an 80 percent year-on-year increase. The United States saw a total of 948,519 international students from more than 200 places of places of origin studying at their higher education institutions during 2021-22.
