NEW DELHI, April 26 : NEET 2018 aspirants in Tamil Nadu have filed a petition with the Madras High Court on Wednesday, April 25, demanding that the CBSE re-allot their exam centres to locations within the state. The petitioners are all National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) candidates who had applied from Tamil Nadu but did not get a centre of their choice as entered by them in the NEET application form and were assigned different centres in other states.
Candidates at the time of filling the NEET application form are required to submit three preferences for examination centres. As stated in the petition, the candidates had mostly chosen the three centres located closest to them within Tamil Nadu. However, when the admit card of NEET 2018 was released on April 17, the candidates belonging to the southern districts of Tamil Nadu discovered that they were assigned centres in the neighbouring state of Kerala.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the exam conducting body for the NEET, subsequently released a notice on April 18 in which it stated that the centre allotment is entirely computerized with no human intervention and as such, after allotment, there is no provision of any change in exam centre or exam centre city under any circumstances.

The current plea requests the High Court to countermand this notice in the interest of the affected candidates as those who have been allotted such centres are mostly from the rural districts and from families that are not financially sound. The candidates, therefore, might not be able to afford the expenditure amount required for staying in locations far away from their own homes. The petitioners have prayed for reallocation of exam centres to the ones that are easily accessible by them within Tamil Nadu itself.
