NEET 2021: Exam on August 1 in a single shift

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct India’s single largest medical entrance exam, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, or NEET 2021, on August 1. Along with announcing the exam date of NEET 2021, the NTA has also confirmed that NEET 2021 will be conducted in pen and paper mode in a single shift. The application form of NEET-UG 2021 along with the information brochure are expected soon at ntaneet.nic.in.

The medical entrance exam will be held for admission to 83,075 MBBS, 26,949 BDS, 52,720 AYUSH, and 525 BVSc and AH seats. The admission to 1,899 seats at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and 249 seats at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) will also be done through NEET 2021 scores.

NEET 2021: To be conducted in a single shift

Earlier, medical aspirants had appealed to the NTA, education ministry and health ministry to conduct NEET 2021 in multiple rounds. However, with the release of the exam date notification, the NTA has made it clear that NEET 2021 will only be conducted in a single shift and no multiple attempts will be given.

NEET 2021: To be conducted in 11 languages

The NTA notice regarding NEET 2021 exam date also says that the medical entrance exam will be conducted in 11 languages including English, Hindi, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, Kannada, Odia, Urdu, and Assamese.

NEET 2021 Eligibility Criteria by NTA

Although the complete information bulletin is yet to be released, these are some of the standard eligibility guidelines set by NTA to appear for NEET and likely to continue for NEET 2021. The following groups of applicants are allowed to write the exam:

• Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and foreign nationals aspirants are eligible to apply.

• Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent with physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology and English as core subjects from a recognized board will be eligible to sit for the medical entrance exam.

• Students appearing in Class 12 or equivalent exams are also eligible to apply for NEET.

• Candidates must have completed 17 years as on December 31, 2021.

• Since the decision on the upper age limit to appear for NEET is pending, general category candidates of 25 years or above are provisionally eligible to apply for the medical entrance exam.

• NEET eligibility marks in Class 12 are aggregate marks only for physics, chemistry, biology (PCB) subjects. To appear for NEET 2021, candidates belonging to the general category should have secured 50%, for OBC candidates, the minimum percentage is 40% and for PwD, it is 45%.

• As per the last NTA guidelines, the last examination passed by NRI/ foreign students must be equivalent to Class 12 qualification in their respective country.

• Candidates should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and must have passed the theory and practical test in each of these subjects as well as English in the qualifying examination.
