Latest changes to EWS seat reservations

As of the current academic year, medical colleges will start offering reservations for the OBC and EWS categories within the AIQ seats. In July, the government and MCC announced a 10 percent reservation for the EWS category in AIQ NEET 2021 admissions, which was challenged before the apex court. Several petitions are before the Supreme Court challenging the government and the MCC's notice providing a quota for those from the EWS category in NEET 2021 AIQ seat admissions.

According to the petitions, numerous issues of concern were raised, including the violation of a 1992 Supreme Court ruling on 50 percent quotas, the lack of study and justification on the EWS reservation criteria, and the government's decision on EWS reservation in NEET admission.
