NEW DELHI: Karnataka is home to 24 government medical colleges and 46 private medical colleges that cater to medical education. The southern state also offers the highest number of 7,995 MBBS seats in private medical colleges. There are a total of 3,750 MBBS seats in Karnataka government medical colleges.

The medical colleges in Karnataka use the NEET 2025 rank and score to grant admission to eligible students. However, admission in courses such as pharmacy, agriculture, and veterinary will be done based on the Karnataka UG Common Entrance Test (KCET or Karnataka UGCET).
As per the selection process, 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats will be filled by the Medical Counselling Committee and the remaining 85% will be filled under the state quota. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test undergraduate (NEET UG 2025) for 23 lakh aspirants on May 4.
Out of the 24 government medical colleges in the state, two institutes - ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Gulbarga and ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Rajajinagar - are run by the central government. Last year, the state government sent a proposal to the National Medical Commission (NMC) seeking permission for a 5% NRI quota in government medical colleges to increase funds, however, students opposed the decision.

NEET cut-off for Karnataka government medical colleges
The NEET MBBS cut-off for Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute increased from rank 1566 in 2023 to 1412 in 2024. The NEET cut-off for MBBS at the remaining Karnataka government medical colleges have dropped.
