NEW DELHI: Supreme Court bench while hearing the plea on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) postponement has adjourned the hearing till Monday, February 27. The Supreme Court bench has asked NBE to come up with certain information and a solution and categorically stated that it is not passing any order either way and keeping the issue open till the next date of hearing.
NEET PG 2023 aspirants want the exam to be postponed by two to three months as there will be a huge gap from exam date to counselling and postponing the exam would be a respite to the aspirants. NEET PG 2023 is scheduled to be held on March 5.
The union health ministry has extended the MBBS internship cut-off date to August 11 for NEET PG 2023. The National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBSEMS) has extended the mandatory internship cut-off date twice. First, it was extended from March 31 to June 30, 2023.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has disposed of the representations seeking postponement of NEET PG 2023 by three months submitted by petitioners from Telangana and announced that exams will be held on the scheduled date. The commission took the decision owing to the announcement of exam date on time, only 2 percent of applications after extension of internship completion deadline, preparations for exam, and early commencement of academic session 2023-24.

Justice Bhat: From a macro-perspective it (postponement) seems very easy. But it is not like that.
The bench has passed over the matter for the appearance of Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhat on behalf of NBE. The case will be taken up after sometime.
Justice Bhat: Those who have been preparing for months together were told that they wait for months. We are also aware when we postpone..the agony of candidates who have prepared...the whole dynamics changes.
Saying that the NEET PG counselling cannot be divided and it will happen after August 11, Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan said: "The gap now between exam and counselling in 5 months now. Previously, it was one month. As a consequence we are getting less time... We are asking the exam to be pushed a little. It was pushed last year."
"They have registered....When you go for counselling you have to show the completion of internship. So, counselling can only happen after August 11," Gopal Sankaranarayanan said Justice Bhatt.
Sr. Adv. Gopal Sankaranarayanan: The NBE notified subsequently said they would relax the cut-off date for internship. It was extended to 11.08.2023 on 07.02.2023.
While hearing the NEET PG postponement case, Sr. Adv. Gopal Sankaranarayanan said: "There are 13 petitioners before your lordships...But about 45,000 other would be affected."
A group of aspirants has posted a petition on Change.org seeking the postponement of NEET PG exams. Over 16,500 candidates have signed the petition till the filing of this news.
Rohan Krishnan, national chairman of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), who has been actively voicing in support of students demanding NEET postponement, has asked the aspirants to continue preparation for NEET PG exam.

The Supreme Court is yet to hear the case on NEET PG 2023 exam date postponement. The case is listed as item 53.

NEET PG is conducted every year for Master of Surgery (MS), Doctor of Medicine (MD) and PG Diploma seats. NEET PG 2023 is scheduled to be held on March 5.
Senior Adv Gopal Shankaranarayanan mentioned the matter to defer NEET PG 2023 by two to three months before the bench rose for lunch break. The Supreme Court Bench said it will consider the plea after 2 pm.

The decision to not postpone NEET PG 2023 was taken to avoid further delay in the exam and counselling process caused due to COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has warned the medical aspirants against a fake public notice being circulated widely on the revised schedule of the NEET PG 2023 examination. The fake notice dated February 6 said that the NEET PG 2023 exam has been rescheduled to May 21, 2023.
NMC examined the representations as directed by Telangana HC and denied postponement owing to exam preparations, problem for 98% other students.
