While candidates await the Supreme Court decision on NEET PG results 2024, confusion mounts regarding MCC NEET PG counselling schedule 2024 as the official notification is yet to be uploaded on the portal, mcc.nic.in.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts four rounds of NEET PG counselling for admission to postgraduate medical programmes namely round 1, round 2, mop-up round, and stray vacancy round. The committee may announce special rounds in case of vacancy in seats or lowering of NEET PG cut-off.
The Department of Medical Education and Research, Haryana has commenced the registration process for NEET PG counselling 2024 for admission to MD, MS, DNB, and PG Diploma programmes. Candidates who have qualified the National Eligibility Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 can apply on hry.online-counselling.co.in. Haryana NEET PG counselling schedule for provisional allocation of seats, document verification, deposition of provisional tuition fee, last date of joining etc. will be notified later.
The total number of NEET PG seats in India is 70,645 as of now, the health ministry told Lok Sabha in a written reply in May this year. The number of seats has increased by 127% in the last decade, from 31,185 in 2014 to over 70,000 in 2024. As per the data shared by the health ministry, Maharashtra has the maximum number of PG medical seats in government colleges while Karnataka boasts of the highest number of PG seats in private colleges.
The National Exit Test (NExT) which is supposed to replace the National Eligibility Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) and the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) is still under consideration, the union ministry of health recently said recently in a reply to a Right to Information (RTI) query. It's been a year since the health ministry formed a seven-member committee to examine the readiness of states and medical institutions for implementation of NExT exam for MBBS students.
NEET PG counselling is conducted for admission to postgraduate medical programmes including MD, MS, DNB, and PG Diploma. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will organise the counselling process for the 50% All India Quota seats. The admission process includes the following:
Vaibhav Garg and Anjali Shekawat obtained a perfect 100 percentile and bagged first and second ranks respectively, as per the NEET PG toppers list 2024. This year, 2,185 candidates obtained 99 percentile.
January - July - The NBEMS announced that it will hold the NEET PG exam 2024 on March 3, which was later postponed to July 7 and then advanced to June 23.
April - The board replied to a RTI and said that the NEET PG was advanced to June 23 due to the RathYatra festival.
May - The NBE changed the exam pattern and introduced mandatory time-bound sections in its MCQ-based (multiple-choice questions) entrance exam, including NEET PG.
July - The NEET PG exam was again postponed to August 11. The board announced that will hold the exam in two shifts - first shift from 9 am to 12.30 pm and second shift from 3.30 pm to 7 pm.
July 31 - The NBEMS issued the exam city allotment link. Candidates started flooding social media platforms with requests to review the allotted city citing that the locations are far away from the preferred choices. Several ministers, including MP Shashi Tharoor wrote to the health ministry and NBEMS requesting to revise the exam city allocations claiming that the centres were 1,000 kms away.
August 8 - The NEET PG admit card 2024 was issued just three days before the exam.
August 9 - The Supreme Court dismissed the NEET PG postponement plea and said rescheduling at the last moment “will affect 2 lakh aspirants and 4 lakh parents”.
August 10 - The NMC issued the NEET PG exam day guidelines and announced its decision to adopt the normalisation method used by AIIMS for its various exams.
August 11 - The NEET PG exam was administered for 2,28,540 candidates at 416 exam centres. Of the total number of registered candidates, 2,16,094 appeared in the exam.
August 23 - NBE declared the NEET PG results 2024, but did not issue the cut-off details. Several candidates demanded for the answer key and raw marks scored by candidates to get a clarity on normalisation method. However, as per the policy, the NBEMS does not share the details of the exam content.
September 13 - The Supreme Court heard the petitions filed by 19 aspirants against the NBEMS questioning the transparency of the exam.
September 20 - The top court took note of the last-minute changes introduced in NEET PG exam and sought response from NBE, Union of India. The CJI DY Chandrachud said changing exam pattern days before the exam is “very unusual”.
September 27 - The court requested “the presence of any of the additional solicitors general to assist the court in the matter".
October 25 - The apex court will resume hearing on October 25.
The NEET PG 2024 exam was conducted on August 11 for a total of 2,28,540 applicants at 416 examination centres across the country. The exam was administered by the NBEMA for admission to postgraduate medical programmes such as MD, MS offered by government and private medical colleges.
The National Board of Examinations (NBE) conducted the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET PG 2024) on August 11 for 2.28 lakh candidates. The NEET PG answer key and the exam content is not made public, as per the NBE exam policy. Despite demands from aspirants, the NBEMS refused to make the answer key and raw marks public.
Later, on August 23, the NEET PG results were declared for over 2 lakh candidates, however, category-wise cut-offs were not announced.
The Supreme Court will hear the petition filed by aspirants against the alleged irregularities in the NEET PG exam and results on October 25. A bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud noted that the last-minute exam pattern change is "very unusual".
The Department of Medical Education and Research, Haryana has started the Haryana NEET PG counselling 2024 on October 18. The last date to register for PG admission through the state counselling has not been announced yet.
The Maharashtra NEET PG counselling 2024 registration last date was extended twice. The application form submission, online payment, and facility to upload documents ended on October 17. However, there is no update after this on the official website, medical2024.mahacet.org/NEET-PGM-2024/.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to upload the NEET PG counselling 2024 schedule on the official website, mcc.nic.in, soon. The NEET PG results 2024 for over 2 lakh candidates was declared on August 23 and the MCC NEET PG counselling registration began on September 20.
