The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking conduct of the National Eligibility Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 on August 3, 2025, as per a Live Law report. The board recently announced postponement of NEET PG exam following the top court’s order to hold the exam in a single shift.

In its application, NBE reportedly informed the apex court that August 3 is the earliest possible date to hold the exam in a single shift. As per its technology partner TCS, the time till June 15 would not be sufficient for planning a single-shift exam as there would be a requirement of many more NEET PG exam centres 2025.

The top court has also been told that the NEET PG 2025 application form window will be reopened to allow candidates to give fresh choices of test cities. The medical exam board would also need additional manpower including security staff, invigilators for the test.

On June 2, NBEMS notified that NEET PG exam 2025 has been postponed to facilitate the identification and preparation of additional exam centres and required infrastructure. The decision follows the SC directive which asked the authorities to hold the exam in one shift, expressing that two shifts create arbitrariness.

NEET PG 2025 postponed

While doctors and medical groups hailed the decision of holding NEET PG in a single shift, several aspirants and members of the medical community expressed dismay over the frequent delays.

“NEET PG New Normal: Extension is the syllabus, Drama is the revision, and Reschedule is the final exam!” Happy holidays guys,” said a doctor in a post on X.

A paediatric wrote, “Frequent NEET PG postponements highlight NBE’s administrative inefficiency, lack of accountability, poor communication, and insensitivity to students’ mental well-being—raising serious concerns about its credibility and capacity to conduct timely, fair exams.”
