As per Bar and Bench, while hearing about the CBI investigation petition, Justice Nath noted the importance of NTA's response on this matter before issuing any orders. Addressing the counsel, he said, CBI investigation can be ordered ex parte today? Is that your submission?".
As per Live Law, in addition to the reported large-scale paper leaks, the petitioners have also brought forward allegations regarding manipulations at the NEET UG 2024 examination centers. Concerns were raised about students from various states (such as Odisha, Karnataka, Jharkhand) selecting a specific center in Godhra, Gujarat.
According to the Live Law report, the Gujarat police registered a case following an incident where a teacher allegedly agreed to provide NEET UG 2024 exam answers in exchange for Rs 10 lakhs. According to the petitioners, the police said that among a group of 26 students, 16 opted for this distant center, and their names were found on lists retrieved from the suspect, Tushar Bhatt, who is both a geography teacher at the school and a superintendent of the NEET UG 2024 Center.
As per Live Law report, the petitioners mentioned, "For example, in Panchmahal's Godhra taluka, Gujarat at least 16 students from distant States like Odisha, Jharkhand, and Karnataka allegedly paid Rs 10 lakh each to clear NEET and chose center at Gujarat ie Jai Jalaram School as their center, despite being from other States. The unusual choice of center highlighted the need to investigate who directed these students to Godhra instead of closer locations. Some students traveled over 1,000 km to take the exam at this center, appearing on a list of suspected malpractice."
The Supreme Court, on June 14, issued a notice regarding a transfer petition filed by the NTA aiming to shift the cases lodged in the Delhi High Court, about alleging paper leak and irregularities during the NEET UG 2024 exam. The vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta merged the cases with other petitions highlighting similar issues, which had been scheduled for July 8.
As per Live Law, advocate Vardhaman Kaushik, representing the NTA, has submitted that three additional transfer petitions had been filed regarding petitions in High Courts concerning the issue of grace marks. He mentioned that these transfer petitions were withdrawn following the NTA's decision to annul the grace marks, as recorded in the Supreme Court's recent order. Kaushik said that the High Court would be notified of the Supreme Court's stance on the grace marks matter.
As per Bar and Bench, amidst the hearing, the bench raised an objection to a statement put forth by one of the counsels representing the petitioners, alleging that students in Kota were committing suicide. Justice Nath, said that the suicides in Kota were not directly linked to the NEET-UG 2024 results, advised the counsel against presenting unnecessary emotional arguments during the proceedings.
