The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has postponed the commencement of round 1 choice filling for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG). The counselling process which was scheduled to begin today will now start on August 8 at 12 noon. NEET UG counselling latest update.

With the revised schedule, candidates participating in counselling will be able to begin filling and locking their preferred choices from 12 noon on August 8. The MCC has not announced any other changes to the counselling process in the notice.

In an official notice issued today, the MCC said the decision was taken in view of a notification issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates. The committee advised candidates to regularly visit the official MCC website for further updates on counselling process.

The official notice reads, "This is for the information to candidates that the Choice Filling for Round-1 of UG Counselling 2026 which was scheduled to start from 06.08.2026 will now commence by 12:00 Noon of 08.08.2026 in view of NMC notification with respect to PwBD candidates issued vide Letter No. U11021/24204/PwBD /2026/ UGMEB dated 05.08.2026 (Copy attached)."

The attached NMC addendum, dated August 5, pertains to the "Guidelines on Assessment of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) for Admission to the MBBS Course, 2026." It modifies certain provisions of the guidelines issued on July 27 to bring them in line with a memorandum issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

NEET UG choice filling

During choice filling qualified candidates select and arrange their preferred medical and dental colleges, as well as courses, in order of priority. The choices submitted by candidates are used by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to allocate seats. It is based on factors including NEET rank, reservation category, seat availability and the preferences entered by the candidate. Candidates can modify and lock their choices before the deadline.
