NEP focussed on twin objectives of inclusion and excellence: President

NEW DELHI : President Ram Nath Kovind, on Saturday, said that the National Education Policy, 2020, is an effort toward achieving the twin objectives of inclusion and excellence. The president was addressing the Visitors’ conference on implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in higher education’.
President Ram Nath Kovind, during the address, said: “National Education Policy...calls for achieving the twin objectives of inclusion and excellence. Being at the top of the education pyramid, the institutions of higher education have the greater responsibility of making India a global knowledge superpower.”
Speaking on the importance of expanding information and communication technology in the field of education, the President said that “joint efforts” should be taken to eliminate the digital divide in the country.
The President said: “Education facilities based on information and communication technology (ICT) are to be expanded to meet the challenges in providing quality education for all. It is important that concerns of equity are addressed and digital divide is eliminated through joint efforts by the concerned stakeholders.”
The President also advocated the use of online resources to overcome academic problems such as shortage of faculty.
“Greater use of online facilities will help overcome problems of shortage of faculty and other resources. Educational institutions should develop very good portals and apps to provide e-learning, e-library and other digital facilities.”
The education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and minister of state Sanja Dhotre was present during the conference that was attended by heads of higher education institutions and regulatory bodies.
