NIELIT, Maharashtra government to establish centres of excellence in various technologies

Electronics and IT ministry joined hands with Maharashtra technical education board to establish centres in ai, IoT, robotics, allied technologies.

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology partnered with the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai to establish centres of excellence and research and development centres.

Under the agreement, the electronics and IT ministry will establish the centre of excellence in Artificial Intelligence (Al), robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), industry 4.0, 3D printing and allied technologies for capacity training at government polytechnic and government engineering colleges in Maharashtra state. The collaboration also allows setting up of R&D centres and to seek funding from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and other government organisations through joint project proposals.

After establishment of the centre of excellence, NIELIT will execute delivery of training and learning activities for the faculty and students in collaboration with industries, develop relevant credit course contents, provide placement assistance for employment to the students and will maintain the centre.

Maharashtra has a total of 40 government polytechnics in the state. The government has already established a centre of excellence in loT at six government polytechnics and centres of excellence in robotics and automation at three government polytechnics. At the remaining government polytechnics, centres of excellence will be established through the funds made available through the agreement.
