NIOS hosts 35th Foundation Day; introduces new study material for ‘Natyakala’ programme

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) hosted its 35th Foundation Day at Vigyan Bhavan on November 23. The event began at 10:30 am and was attended by Chamu Krishna Shastry the chairman of Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti as the chief guest.

During the Foundation Day event, NIOS released the self-study material of its new course ‘Natyakala’. The chief guest also launched the ‘ULLAS se NIOS’ programme aiming to educate and certify illiterate individuals aged 15 and above, with a target of reaching 5 crore learners by 2027.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Vedic mantras and Saraswati Vandana by students from Shrimad Dayanand Kanya Gurukul Mahavidyalaya, Chotipura, followed by lamp lighting. The Divyang students of Amar Jyoti School, Karkardooma, a NIOS study center, welcomed the guests with a song, the NIOS statement added.

Pankaj Arora the chairperson of NIOS, delivered the welcome address for all guests and highlighted NIOS’s contributions to modern education.

The event was attended by a large number of NIOS officials, including the secretary, Heads of departments, directors of regional centers, and retired and former authorities and staff members.

NIOS student’s success stories

At the NIOS Foundation day’s event, the former NIOS students shared their inspiring success stories. Among them were Tejas N, 29 gold and 5 silver medals in swimming; Moitri Sarma, a gold medalist in Taekwondo; and motivational speaker and transgender rights advocate Madhu among others.

All former students spoke about NIOS’s roles in shaping their careers and how the school helped them to achieve their dreams.

The event also included a screening of a documentary showcasing NIOS’s remarkable 35-year journey and an exhibition featuring various courses and textbooks offered by the institute, the NIOS statement added.
