NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), held its 24th edition of Startup Master Class (SMC) 2024. The event was organised by IIT Kanpur’s alumni association in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), government of India, the IIT Kanpur statement said.
The event brings together mission directors of national missions, potential investors, academicians from IIT Kanpur, and startups addressing technological challenges under the four national missions such as:
National Quantum Mission
National Geospatial Programme
Waste2Wealth Programme
Cyber-Physical Systems Mission
“SMC 2024 is the very first starttup master class being held in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology, government of India,” the IIT Kanpur statement adds.

The aim of the SMC 2024 is to bring together different stakeholders on one platform and also provide a platform for:
Identification of potential investee startups by the investors
Secure mentorship, financial and marketplace guidance, and additional funds beyond initial government grants for the startups
Improved viability and flourishing of startups in respective national missions for National Mission Directors
Deploying investor communities business acumen and funds to boost Startup vibrancy for key national missions for Department of Science and Technology
Manindra Agrawal the director, of IIT Kanpur said: “Startup Master Class 2024 is a unique edition which brings together the government, investors, and the startups operating in four key missions of government of India. It is a fine example of collaboration among academicians, investors, government, and entrepreneurs to give shape to the translational research mission of IIT Kanpur. I am sure the event will prove to be a milestone in creating a vibrant ecosystem for startups, investors, academicians, and government to collaborate for nation-building.”
Abhay Karandikar, the secretary of Department of Science and Technology (DST) said: “ This year SMC 2024 is focusing on key National Missions and Programs of the Department of Science and Technology. We hope that SMC will evolve into a robust platform for the collaboration of Government and Private Stakeholders.”
