NIT Rourkela to receive Rs 42.69 crore from coal mining company; will build girls hostel

NEW DELHI: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited will provide a financial assistance of Rs 42.69 crores to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the institute informed via social media.

NIT Rourkela will use the funds to build a 500-seater girls’ hostel in its premises. The institute will sign an agreement with the company in this regard soon.

“Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has agreed to provide financial assistance of ₹42.69 crores to NIT Rourkela under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The sanctioned funds will be used to build a 500-seater girls' hostel in the Institute premises. @mahanadicoal and NITR will soon sign an MoU in this regard,” NIT Rourkela said on X.

In another post on X, the institute shared that it has tied up with the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to develop infrastructure on the institute's campus at an estimated cost of Rs 165.81 crore.

Professor K Umamaheshwar Rao, director, NIT Rourkela and professor Rohan Dhiman, institute’s registrar, met the HEFA officials in Bengaluru and discussed the blueprints of sanctioned funds to be issued under window-1 of HEFA.

“Construction of hostels for students and housing for faculties along with setting up a sewage treatment plant to achieve net-zero waste will be taken up under this agreement,” the post added.
