NIT Warangal to start MTech in waste management: Report

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, will soon start a master’s program in waste management. This was announced by the director, N V Ramana Rao on February 28.

As reported by the Times of India, Rao was speaking at a two-day industry-academia meet on waste management and social entrepreneurship supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

According to the TOI report, the MTech program will be launched with 20 seats.

The meet was attended by experts from waste management technology, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, private corporates, NGOs and allied organisations, the report said.

Waste management is being addressed in postgraduate programmes under different names.

Talking to Careers360 about waste management as subject for a postgraduate degree programme, A. K. Gosain, professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, said, “The job scope is pretty good in the theme area which includes also the management of waste from plants in the cities. In a developing country, the requirement of such study and their management is much more than that of a developed country. There are many more areas that need management of waste.”

IIT Delhi runs an MTech programme in the allied field of environmental management.
