NLSIU to host NHRC National Moot Court Competition 2024-25; registration begins tomorrow
National Moot Court Competition: The institute will issue the problem statement on October 20 with the registration deadline set for October 27.

NEW DELHI: The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) invite applications for the ‘NLS-NHRC National Moot Court Competition 2024-25’. As per the official notices, the registration process for the moot court competition will be announced tomorrow, October 10.
Eligible candidates can fill out the application form through the official website, nls.ac.in. The theme for this year’s moot is ‘Censorship and Freedom of Speech and Expression under Article 19 of the Constitution of India.’
“Based on memorial submissions in the qualifier rounds (November 2024), 16 teams will qualify for the final oral rounds to be held in Bengaluru in January 2025,” NLSIU informed. As per the schedule, the registration deadline is set for October 27, 2024,
The institute will issue the problem statement on October 20, 2024. Candidates can seek clarifications until November 5, 2024, with responses provided by November 9, 2024. The deadline for memorial submissions is November 25, 2024. The declaration of the 16 qualifying teams will take place on December 18, 2024, followed by the final oral rounds scheduled for January 3 to January 5, 2025.
NLSIU National Moot Court Competition 2024-25: Eligibility
Candidates can check the eligibility criteria to participate in the National Moot Court Competition 2024-25 outlined below.

Open to students enrolled in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (3-year/5-year) or Master of Laws (LLM) courses

Only one team per institution is allowed

Team members must belong to the same institution

Team composition: 3 members per team (2 speakers and 1 researcher)

Competition format
The NLSIU National Moot Court Competition 2024-25 will be conducted over five rounds. In the qualifiers, teams must submit two memorials—one for the petitioner and one for the respondent each containing 4,000 words. The top 16 teams will qualify for the oral rounds.
The preliminary oral rounds, or pre-quarters, will have sides determined by lot, with the top 8 teams advancing to the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals will follow a single-cycle format, also with sides determined by lot.
The semi-finals will use a similar single-cycle format with sides determined by lot. The finals will also follow this format, culminating in the declaration of the winning team as the NLS-NHRC National Moot 2024 Champion.
