NMC’s Medical Assessment and Rating Board has approved the college which will be affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC)’s Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has approved Nalbari Medical College in Assam for 100 MBBS seats starting from the academic year 2023-24. The new college will be affiliated with the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati. NMC has asked the college to provide required documents for issuance of Letter of Permission (LoP).
In a letter of intent for 100 MBBS seats, the commission informed that MARB examined the report of assessor, dated February 27, 2023, for assessing the availability of infrastructure facilities of the college, labs, library, hostels, hospitals; and the availability of faculty, their experience, publications; and residents or tutors, nursing and paramedical staff along with other facilities at the college. Upon examining the report, the MARB decided to approve the college for 100 MBBS seats.

“In view of the above approval of 100 MBBS seats, the commission has decided to obtain undertaking/essential documents for issue of Letter of Permission for starting/increase in seats for the academic year 2023-24,” said NMC in the letter and asked for the following:
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on Twitter and said in a tweet, “We've reached another milestone! Delighted to share that Nalbari Medical College has been recognised by National Medical Commission with an approval to admit 100 MBBS students. It's a historic accomplishment for Assam with 4 new medical colleges being set up in just one year!”

Keshab Mahanta Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Assam also expressed delight over the news and tweeted, “Under the guidance of Hon'ble CM himantabiswa dangoriya, GoA is committed to augment the medical education in the state. Delighted to share that Nalbari Medical College, the 12th Medical College in the state, has received the approval of MARB under @NMC_IND for 100 MBBS seats.”
