NMC approves setting up of new government medical college in Telangana’s Khammam

Government Medical College Khamman under the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal has been approved with 100 MBBS seats.

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the establishment of a new government medical college in Khammam district of Telangana. The new medical college will be set up with 100 MBBS seats and will start its academic session from 2023-24.

The National Medical Commission Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) in the letter of intent said that the new medical college at Government Medical College Khammam Telangana under the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal be approved with 100 MBBS seats. As per the NMC regulations, no medical college or medical institution can be established unless it is granted permission by MARB in writing, in response to an application submitted in that regard.

All the infrastructure facilities, teaching faculties and resident doctors will be provided in the medical college by the Telangana government as per NMC norms within a period of three months.

The NMC approval to set up the new medical college in Khammam has come after Kamareddy and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts in Telangana received NMC approval for government medical colleges with 100 seats each.

Thanking the Chief Minister of Telangana and minister of health and family welfare, the minister of transport Ajay Kumar Puvvada in a social media post said: “National Medical Commission issues Letter Of Intent to start Govt Medical College with 100 seats. Classes from this academic year 2023-24 itself.”

The Telangana government is working to build nine medical colleges for the 2023-24 academic session. Out of which, the NMC gave approval for three colleges. The remaining six medical institutions will be set up at Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jangaon, and Nirmal.
