NMC asks medical colleges to implement biometric-attendance, CCTV to prevent 'adverse action'

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has once again directed all medical colleges to take steps to implement Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS), Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) and connection of CCTVs feed to Command and Control Centre at NMC.

The commission observed that despite repeated reminders several medical colleges have not implemented the IT initiatives announced by the NMC.

It had in the earlier notice informed that for the approval of new courses and establishment, the data of AEBAS, HMIS and CCTV integration with NMC will be used for decision making.

The NMC said: “NMC in its previous communications has already advised the Medical Colleges that for consideration of any applications for renewals, recognition CoR (Continuation of Recognition) surprise inspections, increase in UG/PG seats, approval of PG courses, college applying for new establishments, the data of AEBAS, HMIS and CCTV integration with NMC will be used for decision making.”

It further warned medical colleges to immediately implement the initiatives “in order to prevent adverse actions against them”. In July last year, the NMC advised colleges to install a total of 25 CCTV cameras in the campus.

The health ministry also in its virtual address to all medical colleges on September 22,2022 and its interaction meeting with medical colleges on January 5, 2023, have conveyed that it is mandatory for all medical colleges to implement the IT initiatives.

Recently,the NMC further extended the deadline for medical colleges to submit the details of students enrolled in the first year of MBBS programme in the academic session 2022-23 till January 16.
