‘Affecting mental health of 2,300 PG doctors’: FAIMA urges NMC to conduct exit exam pending for a year

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has urged the National Medical Commission (NMC) to “urgently” resolve the issue affecting over 2,300 postgraduate resident doctors who have been waiting for their final exit examinations for more than a year.

Explaining the impact of the prolonged delay in the exit exams, the association said that it has taken a toll on resident doctors, adversely affecting their careers and overall well-being.

It also stated that the last exit examinations were conducted in October 2024.

CPS courses case pending before Supreme Court

“This prolonged delay is primarily due to ongoing litigation before the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India concerning regulatory issues related to CPS (College of Physicians and Surgeons) courses,” FAIMA said.

Acknowledging the importance of due process, FAIMA stressed that the delay has caused “significant hardship” to affected PG residents, including financial strain, psychological stress, and description of clinical practice.

It has requested the medical commission to “immediately” resolve the matter and ensure that the NMC and other relevant authorities submit their responses before the Supreme Court to prevent further delays.

FAIMA also urged NMC to expedite the conduct of the pending examinations and organise the quick scheduling of the final exit examinations for the affected residents.

“Streamline regulatory processes: Implement measures to prevent such delays in the future, ensuring timely assessments and examinations for postgraduate students,” it said.
