NMC issues alert against fake letter related to ghost faculty members in medical colleges

The letter signed under “UGMEB director” warns heads of medical institutions of action for not weeding out host or part time faculties in medical colleges

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an alert regarding a fake letter issued to medical colleges. The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UMEB) of NMC said a fake letter dated February 3 issued under the signature of director UGMEB Sharan Kumar is circulating on social media.

The NMC added that all the stakeholders, including medical colleges are hereby advised to not to fall in trap of any such fake letter(s). The NMC said it will initiate action under the relevant law against such fake messages in social media.

What fake letter says?

The fake letter is related to weeding out ghost or part time faculties in medical colleges. The letter read, “It has been brought to our attention that many ghost faculties are actively assisting the institution to make fake fingerprints for Adhaar enabled biometric attendance system, which makes a person accomplice to the crime.”

“Your name has been forwarded to concerned authorities to take action, the letter added.

If a letter is not received through a dedicated email of UGMEB or NMC as well as by post from NMC the stakeholders should ignore it, the regulatory body said.

It also added that all important letters, circulars and public notice are posted on the NMC official website i.e. nmc.org.in. “It is advised to check the website of NMC to verify the genuineness of notices, circulars and letters. In case of any doubt same be please be clarified from UGMEB of NMC,” it added.

All concerned are alerted to reply upon genuine letters, circulars, and notices available on NMC website only, the NMC said.
